Just Me, the Deer, and the Shot

November 7, 2009 at 1:17 pm (TylerB, Uncategorized)

Just Me, the Deer, and the Shot

It’s just me, the deer, and the shot

The deer may run

The wind may blow

The snow may be thick

But, I can still shoot

I’ve got five shells

No obstacles in my way

No snow in my scope

The deer haven’t saw me yet

No body scent blowing in the wind

It’s just me, the gun, and the shot

I slowly raise the gun

Flick the safety button off

Smell the warm, moist gunpowder

BULLSEYE

Riley TMB 3

I asked you to go hunting

Because you were my papaw

I handed you your rifle,

But you just shook your head

I guess I just didn’t realize you weren’t able to go.

I ask if you wanted to ride the truck around the hills

You said, “Lets go”

Then I asked if it would be like this forever

You said, “No”

Then I started to cry

I didn’t want to lose you

But that day came anyway

And you just don’t know

How it would make me feel

Just to see you

One more time.

Pine

October 5, 2009 at 8:19 am (TylerB, Uncategorized)

              A Pine TMB

I am a pine

I stand tall and firm

No matter how much wind

I am made of tough bark on the outside

hard, sticky wood on the inside

I am stronger than most other trees around me

Unlike a willow,

I don’t bend and let others topple over me

As I become older

 I only become stronger

Unlike others

 who become brittle

and uproot with the slightest breeze

Mother Nature doesn’t get me down

I stay green and active

 no matter the season

All of my neighbors become dormant

 lifeless with no activity

I stay bright and strong all year

Even the wildlife found out I am no Hickory

squirrels get gummed up as they try to get my pine cones

deer, bear, and coyote get poked and jabbed by my long and sharp spurs

They can’t live off of me

like they can a walnut or beach tree.

I have no food to offer them.

That is why I am always green and strong

all year round.

November 23 TMB

First morning of rifle season

   alarm blaring, 4:15 a.m.

at the house deep in the Mongalia National Forest

Bacon and eggs frying

   coffee in hand

Dad and the guys still asleep

   getting up soon after

Forks and knives scraping plates

The Andy Griffith Show blaring in the living room

Setting down to get another moment of rest

While everybody is donning camo and orange vests

Loading the 30-06 deer rifle

     Boots waiting at the door

Outside bundled up

     five degree wind-chill

Trekking deeper into the mountains

     each passing moment

All just before sunrise

All just before sunrise

Each passing moment

     Trekking deeper into the mountains

Five degree wind-chill

      Outside bundled up

Boots waiting at the door

    Loading the 30-06 deer rifle

While everyone dons camo and orange vests

Setting down to get another moment of rest

The Andy Griffith Show blaring in the living room

Getting up soon after

Dad and the guys still asleep

I Am By Cara Simpkins

September 25, 2009 at 8:29 am (Uncategorized)

“I Am

I am stressful and talkative
I wonder what people will say when they see Jesus face to face
I hear voices telling me right from wrong
I see a peaceful place in my mind
I want to see everyone happy and carefree
I am stressful and talkative.

I pretend to fulfill my wildest dreams
I feel the weight of the world on my shoulders
I touch the hearts of everyone who is hurting
I worry whether I make the right decisions
I cry when I fail at something I tried so hard at
I am stressful and talkative

I understand how people let things get to them
I say everyone should know the love of Jesus
I dream to always of a good relationship with my parents as I do now
I try to go that extra mile for everything
I hope to someday find a TRUE friend
I am Me.

“I am From…”

September 9, 2009 at 8:29 am (CaraS, Uncategorized)

I am from love and kindness

From helping someone in need

And comfort to those who are troubled

I am from going to church every week

Seeing those who love you

And reaching out to those who need you

I am from song

Joyful, pleasant

Upset, melancholy

From finding a song that suits my every mood

I am from a girly approach

Lavender rose

Gloss, glitter

I am from a normal teenage paradise

Spring time 4:00 pm

evening is

bright sky

warm day

new life

grow and blossom

right away

green grass

soft between toes

  inside

empty house

                no voices heard

and outside on

the spring day

the screams are followed

with your play

the yellow flowers everywhere

smelling sweet

sway to the wind

birds in their nest sing

on trees

covering mountain tops

This is spring time

Save that picture in your memory
go back to that chilly night
remember the blanket of stars over your head

Save his words in your memory

go back to them

play them in your head over and over

disect each word

Remember the look in his eyes

on that 23rd night of April

they were blue as they’ve ever been

Remember the feeling of your first hug as an official couple

remember the amount of comfort you felt

remember the feeling of stress lifting off your shoulders

A blessing on my second home

A Blessing on my second home

By Alex Estep

Peace to you home of comfort

Peace to you support and cheerfulness

Peace to you laughter and joy

A blessing on all beds, warm and inviting,

Helping rest us for the next morning

A blessing on all candles, short and tall

Embracing the entire home in a warm fragrance

A blessing on all phones, cellular and landlines

Keeping us in touch with those we care for

A blessing on the dogs, guards of the home

Keeping the territory clear of uninvited guests

A blessing on the doorbell, on pictures, computers, on strobe lights, on all that seems to keep us entertained

A blessing on this grass: green and lush beneath my feet

Where this house was first built, where this house will remain

Peace be on you home of comfort, peace on this land, where it all began.

When I was young..by Beau Allen

May 8, 2009 at 12:31 pm (Uncategorized)

When I was young in West Virginia,

the sky was always clear and my

summers were great, I always went

to my friend Tyler’s house, Tyler and I would

always stay at each others houses at night

also my birthday is in the summer its on

August  the fourteenth I always loved having

my birthday at the park we always rode bikes

through the park and had cake fights all the time

and It was the greatest feeling ever to have good friends.

Which were jumpy as frogs.

When I was young in West Virginia

mountains surrounded the place

every winter the snow covered

the ground and the trees I had great

times on Christmas.

When I was young in west Virginia

I loved to stay at my grandma’s house all

the time she always wanted me

there to visit her and keep her

company she always sat on the porch

after she made dinner  I loved my childhood

most of the time I wish that I could go

back to that time.

remember

February 28, 2008 at 9:27 pm (Autumn, Uncategorized)

Do you remember? I do.A day in November when my world crashed

When my world erupted in a ball of furious chaos

And you became my knight in shining armour

My family exploded in a hail of yelling voices

My mother was the cause yet again

I couldn’t breathe

And you saved me

We weren’t yet together

We hadn’t yet said “I love you”

But I knew you did

You loved me

I can’t remember the movie we saw

I can’t remember the people who passed or spoke

But I remember you

How you saved me

How you were there when it seemed darkest

Do you remember?

I do.

And I will for as long as time turns
